Well...it has been an interesting week.
The school was broken into and when I was allowed in I went and helped clean up the library where the fire extinguishers had been set off. The fire extinguisher left behind this fine pale dust that was hanging in the air and coating everything. None of the books were damaged but shelves had been broken and pushed over and the old desktop computer had been destroyed.
My room was largely untouched except for the rabbit cage. The young man must have opened the door, seen the cage on a desk and kicked it off. There is a large dent where he kicked it and some of the small plastic parts that hold it together have been shattered. Luckily I have a smaller cage that the bunnies can live in until their permanent home is fixed. All the interior windows of our office have been knocked out. The Counsellor's office was covered in blue paint. One of the new TV screens that was installed in June was smashed beyond use. The list goes on and on.
Then, on my birthday, the Principal slipped, fell, and broke one ankle, sprained her other foot and bashed up her elbows. She was laying outside calling for help until one of the other teachers found her. It took 45 minutes for the ambulance to come because they were transferring a patient at the airport. She was sent to Lions Gate hospital in Vancouver. Our Vice Principal is brand new and this is only his second year as a VP.
It has been an interesting environment for the new teachers to arrive into. So far so good, we had a get together and the new teachers all seem really cool a little wide eyed but mostly cool. On Wednesday the school is taking us to Kvai which is about an hour away by boat. Thursday we have professional development, and Friday is our last day to work on our classrooms. Heres hoping that nothing else interesting happens :)
