Fishes, Temporary stores, and Hooligans.

It isn't a very good picture but at least you can see the fish jumping.

Fishes:
This morning we drove down to Old Town, the former center of town that was abandoned due to repeated epidemics, the last of which being a nasty outbreak of the measles. Right now the Salmon are plentiful off the shore in this part of Bella Bella and as you stand on the shore you can watch them leap out of the water. I stood there with my camera trying desperately to catch photographic evidence of this event but to no avail. Finally I got this shot which isn't great but you can see the fish!

Temporary Stores:
Last night we attended a community meeting on the future of the Band store and a potential temporary store. It turns out that our insurance plan provides $250,000 for a temporary store which the Band hopes to have up by Christmas at the latest, it will be about 8000 square feet and two stories. The temporary store will be a steel building meaning it's life span will only be about 25 years or less given that we live on the shore of the West Coast. There was some discussion and tension over the location but it looks as though this will go ahead with construction on the permanent structure starting in the spring. The site of the former store will be a park and it looks as though the large fuel tanks are set to be moved or at least down-sized.

Hooligans:
Last night someone broke into the school, broke windows, set off fire extinguishers, and were just generally destructive. They also continued their breaking spree down our street, this morning when we got in our car we discovered my Mother's binoculars had been taken and that they had broken off our windshield wiper handle so that our windshield wipers will not turn off. Oh well, this works for Bella Bella weather.
